(SEROLOGY TESTS)

Serological tests are practically very useful because they can identify individuals who have been infected (including severe, mild and asymptomatic) and who are potentially immune from re-infection.

These tests are performed using blood from a finger prick.

These tests are generally the most accurate tests to diagnose people who are currently infected with COVID-19.

BASIC PROTECTIVE MEASURES

  • Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly and with alcohol - based hand rub, or soap and water, especially after touching surfaces that may have been touched by others.

  • Wear a mask. While wearing a mask, hasn’t been shown to be particularly effective in protecting yourself, it will protect those around you and prevent the spread because it stops potentially infected droplets being dispersed into the air.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • Maintain social distancing, leaving at least 1.5m between yourself and another person. This reduces the risk of breathing in small droplets if someone close by coughs or sneezes.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth because when you touch surfaces your hands can transfer the virus to your nose, eyes or mouth and infect you.

  • Cough or sneeze into a tissue and dispose of it immediately. If you don’t have a tissue, use a bent elbow. Don’t cover your nose or mouth with your hand.

  • Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces that you touch frequently.
