How to Protect Yourself

Basic Protective Measures

  • Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly with soap and water, especially after touching surfaces that may have been touched by others.

  • Wear a mask. While wearing a mask, isn’t very effective in protecting yourself, it will protect those around you and prevent the spread because it stops potentially infected droplets being dispersed into the air.

  • Avoid contact with people who may be infected even without symptoms.

  • Maintain social distancing, leaving at least 2m between you and another person. This reduces the risk of breathing in small droplets that may contain the virus.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth because when you touch surfaces your hands can transfer the virus to your nose, eyes or mouth and infect you.

  • Cough or sneeze into a tissue and dispose of it immediately. If you don’t have a tissue, use a bent elbow. Don’t cover your nose or mouth with your hand.

  • Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces that you touch frequently.
